Lithium-ion batteries can expand when internal cells deteriorate or produce gas. In a thin laptop there is almost no empty space, so the growing battery presses against the trackpad, keyboard, palm rest, bottom cover, or display assembly. Battery replacement is more than swapping a part
The laptop should be opened carefully so the battery is not bent during removal. Adhesive-mounted batteries require particular care. The technician should also inspect the trackpad, bottom cover, cables, screws, and charging behavior because swelling may have caused secondary damage.
Replacement quality matters. The correct model, connector, voltage, physical dimensions, and reputable sourcing are important; a battery that merely fits the opening is not automatically compatible.
