USB problems range from a single worn connector to a system-wide controller failure. The pattern matters: which devices fail, which ports fail, whether power is present, and whether the issue began after physical damage, a Windows update, or a liquid spill.
Test the device and the port separately
Try the USB device on another computer, then try a simple known-good device—such as a basic wired mouse—in the questionable port. Avoid testing with an important external drive first. A damaged port or unstable connection can interrupt a transfer and corrupt data.
